The “Tour” ring is one of designer Jean Vendome’s most famous pieces. He conjured up this square-section sculptural and asymmetrical gold design in 1956. At the time, it was resolutely avant-garde and unprecedented – some people even thought a piece of metal was missing! Jean Vendome revisited the concept throughout his career, varying the gemstones each time, as in this example with citrines.

This ring perfectly illustrates the esthetics of emptiness dear to Jean Vendome – it’s one of his defining hallmarks (along with the use, for example, of strange stones), inspired by the work of the sculptor Henry Moore. In his Parisian workshop-boutique, he toyed tirelessly with light and transparency, as perfectly demonstrated by the 120 pieces of jewelry presented in the 2021 exhibition “Jean Vendome, artist jeweler” at the School of Jewelry Arts (Paris).
